The French clarinetist Michel Lethiec is currently considered one of the eminent figures of the international musical world. Performing as a soloist and in chamber music, he partners with the most renowned performers and orchestras.
Michel Lethiec is the founder of the Prades International Chamber Music Academy and the Artistic Director of the legendary Pablo Casals Festival from 1982 to 2020.
Each summer, he hosted the greatest soloists and chamber musicians with students around original programs also presented at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris and in several other capitals such as Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico
As an enthusiastic interpreter of the music of our time he has created numerou pieces and concertos, including works by Penderecki, Corigliano, Maratka, Balllif, Landowski, Decoust, Dalbavie, Fourchotte, Risset, Narita, Brotons, Hersant, Finzi, Ryu.
His extensive discography (for Lyrinx, Naxos, Arion, RCA, Bis, Talent, Actes Sud), for which he was awarded two «Grand Prix du Disc », includes sgreat classics of the repertoire for clarinet (Mozart, Brahms, Pleyel, Schumann, Poulenc, Beethoven, Schubert…) and unreleased recordings by Krzysztof Penderecki, Gershwin, Oswaldo Golijov, Bernard Hermann, David Del Tredici, Krystof Maratka.
A renowned teacher, he is Honorary Professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, professor at the Conservatory of Nice and regularly gives master classes at the Ecole Normale de Paris and in major foreign institutions (China, Hamburg, Finland, Brazil, Prague).
He is regularly on the jury of international competitions (Geneva, Leipzig, Prague, Munich, Osaka, Beijing, Friborg, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Rouen).
Michel Lethiec has been granted the honorary title of knighthood in the National Order of Merit and in the Order of Arts and Letters.
